Live with Brandon George
December 23, 2020

Last week Brandon and I stopped by the Flute Center of New York to play our new arrangement of Sonata no. 1 by Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre. The sonata was written in 1705 for violin, keyboard, and viol but it works perfectly for flute and guitar. It's a great piece -- catchy melodies, impressionistic harmony, and at least one moment of actual bitonality. Our arrangement will be published sometime in the coming year!

I recently recorded Saudade no. 3 by legendary guitarist and composer Roland Dyens for the Metropolis Ensemble's new series House Music. It doesn't get much better than this.

El Cimarrón
December 16, 2019

On December 13, AMOC brought Hans Werner Henze's El Cimarrón to Harvard, our second run of this production. This music is dense and complicated and I've found that there is so much to discover beneath the surface.

Henze really leans into the uncomfortable, the awkward, and the counterintuitive with this one, while occasionally indulging in rich harmonies and tight grooves.

I couldn't have asked for a better team of musicians than Davóne Tines, Jonny Allen, and Emi Ferguson.
